Jimmy was in Scun thorpe on Saturday, where they hold regular amateur racings. These are real competitions and Jimmy was in the B-final (i.e. among the first every time he gave it a go. Yesterday, he almost made it to the A-final, he said on the phone before he set off to travel home. Unfortunately, he fell during the last race which he needed to win to qualify.

Although driving distracted from the pain, the pain got excrutiating when he came home and the next morning, we went to A&E to the New Royal.

Jimmy bruised his kidney, but thankfully, this was not ruptured. They did an ultra scan (I watched!) and could confirm that there were no significant inner injuries. Seems like a narrow escape, as he had blood in his urine and needed morphine to control the pain (which made him see two of me sitting at his bed side!).

Today, needless to say, he is back at work.

I may add that he was extremely well looked after. I must admit that both out attitude towards NHS hospitals is not the best, but everyone was very good. He was regularly checked and reassured, everything was clean and, although in doubt, they decided to perform the scan rather than not. Other patients on the ward were somewhat difficult but were also treated with the respect they are due. I just thought I`d mention that, with all the horror stories you read about NHS hospitals.

 

Jimmy war am Samstag in Scun thorpe on Saturday, wo es regelmaessige Amateurrennen gibt. Dies sind richtige Wettbewerbe, und Jimmy war bisher immer im B-Finale (also unter den ersten 8 Fahrern). Am Samstag schaffte er es fast bis ins A-Finale, sagte er am Telefon befor er sich auf den Heimweg machte. Leider fiel er in dem letzten Rennen das er dafuer noch haette gewinnen muessen.

Die Autofahrt lenkte von den Schmerzen ab, aber diese wurden sehr schlimm, und am naechsten Morgen fuhren wir ins Krankenhaus in die Notaufnahme.

Jimmy hat sich eine Niere geprellt, aber sie war Gottseidank nicht gerissen. Sie machten eine Ultraschalluntersuchung (ich konnte zusehen!) und fanden keine inneren Verletzungen. Das war knapp gewesen – er hatte Blut im Urin und hatte solche Schmerzen dass man ihm Morphium verabreichte (welches dazu fuehrte dass er mich zweimal sah!).

Heute ist er, wie koennte es anders sein, wieder arbeiten!

Man hat sich uebrigens sehr gut um ihn gekuemmert. Unsere Einstellung zu NHS Krankenhaeusern ist zugegebenermassen nicht die beste, aber alles lief sehr gut. Regelmaessig kam jemand nach ihm gucken, alles war sauber, und obwohl man sich nicht sicher war machte man die Ultraschalluntersuchung. Andere Patienten waren etwas schwieriger und wurden ebenfalls sehr respektvoll behandelt.
