On Monday we were in Elche (near Alicante). We were told that this is a good destination for buying shoes and indeed, there was one shoe shop next to the other! Seriously! It seems to be the capital of shoes! Same with bags!

But actually, we bought almost nothing. Most things were very cheap, yes, everything was made in China and probably not ethically correct. Quality was probably not as good as it looked form afar. Absolutely animal-free, mind you, i.e. non-leather. Bought two purses – with cat`s heads, Hello Kitty-like. I needed a new purse desperately for a while and I bought another one as a gift.

I used to value shopping very highly  on holiday when I was younger, but no more. As I get older, I take more pleasure in spending money on having a good time at the destination and maybe buying a few unusual mementos (such as things for the house) than bringing home piles of tacky T-shirts.

We did not even bring home food this time (although, of course, we did bring some things in bottles…)

 

Am Montag waren wir in Elche, bei Alicante. Man hatte uns gesagt dass man dort gut Schuhe kaufen kann, und tatsaechlich gab es ein Schuhgeschaeft neben dem anderen. Elche scheint eine Art Hauptstadt fuer Schuhe und Taschen zu sein!

Dennoch haben wir fast nichts gekauft. Das meiste war spottbillig, alles made in China und von daher wahrscheinlich nicht gerade fairtrade. Die Qualitaet war womoeglich nicht so gut wie es von weitem aussah. Alles war jedoch absolut tier- also lederfrei. Ich habe zwei Portemonnaies mit Katzenkoepfen gekauft, eine Hello Kitty-Imitation. Ich brauchte sowieso ein neues Portemonnaie und ich kaufte ein weiteres als Geschenk.

Frueher habe ich im Urlaub aufs Shoppen immer sehr viel Wert gelegt. Jetzt wo ich aelter werde gebe ich lieber mehr Geld dafuer aus um am Urlaubsort schoene Sachen zu machen und kaufe vielleicht ein, zwei ungewoehnliche Dinge (fuers Haus) als Berge von kitschigen T-Shirts.

Nicht mal viele Lebensmittel haben wir dieses Mal gekauft (obwohl natuerlich wieder ein paar Sachen in Flaschen mitgingen…
